Brebes, February 7 – The Economics Study Program of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) held a community service activity in Kluwut Village, Brebes. This activity was led by Professor of Economics, Prof. FX Sugiyanto, who was accompanied by three new lecturers from the UNDIP Economics Study Program. Before heading to the service location, the team was first greeted by the Head of Baperlitbangda Brebes, Drs. Apriyanto Sudarmoko, as a form of appreciation and support for the activity.

This community service aims to identify the characteristics of the area and the social and economic conditions of the local community. Kluwut Village, known as a fishing village, has various economic potentials based on fisheries. However, the team found a fairly unique phenomenon, namely the high rate of stunting in the area even though fishery resources are abundant.

Kluwut Village is also included in the 54 priority villages in Brebes Regency based on data from the Targeting for the Acceleration of the Eradication of Extreme Poverty (P3KE). This shows that this village requires special attention from various parties to improve community welfare, especially in terms of health and economy. Therefore, the service carried out by the UNDIP Economics Study Program team is expected to provide a more in-depth mapping and analysis related to the problems faced by residents.

The results of this activity will later be formulated in the form of policy recommendations that can be used by the Brebes Regency Government to develop more effective development strategies. With the collaboration between academics and local governments, it is hoped that the resulting solutions can be directly implemented to improve the welfare of the Kluwut Village community.

This community service activity is one form of real contribution from the academic world in supporting regional development. UNDIP is committed to continuing to play an active role in providing research-based solutions and academic studies to help communities in various sectors, especially in the economic and social fields.
