UNDIP’s SDGs Talks Discusses Development Inequality with Prof. Indah Susilowati

Semarang – The Faculty of Economics and Business, Diponegoro University (FEB UNDIP) once again actively contributed to strengthening sustainable development issues through the participation of lecturers in the SDGs Talks program organized by the Diponegoro University SDGs Center.

This activity featured Prof. Dra. Indah Susilowati, M.Sc., PhD, a lecturer at FEB UNDIP, as the main speaker, with the theme “Dynamics of Development Inequality and Regional Disparities from a Sustainable Development Perspective.” The discussion took place on Monday, January 19, 2026, in the Audio Visual Room of FISIP UNDIP, and was presented in a short and inspiring dialogue format.

In her presentation, Prof. Indah emphasized that development inequality between regions remains a serious challenge in Indonesia. Differences in access to infrastructure, education, health services, and economic opportunities are the main factors widening regional disparities. She stated that efforts to reduce inequality must be a priority in national development policy because they directly contribute to achieving SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.

“Development cannot be seen solely in terms of national economic growth; it must ensure that its benefits are felt equally by all regions and community groups,” stated Prof. Indah during the discussion session.

This activity also involved the UNDIP SDGs Center team, several young lecturers, and student representatives who actively participated in the discussion. The dialogue was interactive, with discussions linking development economic theory, empirical conditions in Indonesia, and the role of universities in promoting social justice-based policies.

The participation of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNDIP in this activity demonstrates the Economics Department’s commitment to continuing to engage with national and global strategic issues, particularly those related to sustainable development. It is hoped that activities like this will enrich the academic community’s knowledge and encourage the development of research and policy ideas that support reducing inequality and improving public welfare.
