In dealing with the increasing phenomenon of emotional consumption among the younger generation, the Community Service Team from the Department of Economics, Diponegoro University, implemented a financial literacy training program at the Al-Ghozali Student Islamic Boarding School, Sleman, Yogyakarta.

This activity took place on May 27-28, 2025 and targeted Generation Z and millennial students who are vulnerable to irrational consumption behavior, such as the lipstick effect and doom spending, as a response to economic pressure.

Through the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, this training aims to improve financial understanding, control emotional consumption, and instill the importance of early financial planning. Training materials include managing basic needs, the 50-20-20-10 budget system, and utilizing digital platforms such as LinkedIn to strengthen personal branding.

Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test, there was a significant increase in participants’ understanding of financial management and the dangers of impulsive consumption. Participants were also able to prepare a financial plan that balanced needs and wants.

This activity is expected to be the first step in forming a young generation that is economically and emotionally resilient, while also creating a sustainable consumption ecosystem in the future.
