Semarang – To broaden their academic horizons and gain international experience, a student from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) had the opportunity to participate in an internship program with a research partner from her supervisor, Prof. Dra. Indah Susilowati, M.Sc., Ph.D., a professor at FEB UNDIP. This program was conducted at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and fully supported by the FEB UNDIP World Class University (WCU) Program through the Student Go International scheme, with the theme “Sustainability: from Vulnerable to Viable (V2V).”

Participation in this activity not only provided cross-border research experience but also supported the completion of a project paper entitled “Analysis of the Overtourism Phenomenon and Tourist Perspective on Policies at Borobudur Temple, Magelang.” The project paper exam took place on August 21, 2025, with the presence of an external examiner, Dr. Suzuana Hassan, from the Center for Inclusive & Sustainable Development Studies (SID), UKM.

Thanks to intensive academic guidance and input, the final result of this research successfully earned an Excellent graduation award.
To disseminate knowledge and research findings to the public, the student also wrote a popular article on the issue of overtourism and mitigation strategies to ensure the sustainability of Borobudur Temple as a global cultural tourism destination. The article can be accessed through the following link: click here.

With this international academic experience and popular publication, it is hoped that the positive contribution to the development of sustainable tourism in Indonesia will become increasingly evident.
