Sleman, September 27-28, 2025, five lecturers from the Economics Study Program at Diponegoro University conducted community service activities in Sleman Regency. This activity represents a concrete manifestation of the university’s contribution to supporting community economic empowerment. In its implementation, the team of lecturers collaborated with the local Literacy Village Grow (LDT) community, a literacy foundation located in Betakan Hamlet, Sumberrahayu Village, Moyudan District.
The Literacy Village Grow community was founded in July 2024 by Desy Ery Dani, a former lecturer in Library Science at Diponegoro University, and Noor Huda Ismail, an academic and creative practitioner. Initially, the movement began as a simple activity, opening a reading room in their garage, but later evolved into a literacy center, art space, and educational forum involving children and adults in the village. Today, LDT is actively driving literacy, arts, and community empowerment in the Sleman region.
This community service activity carried the theme “Empowering MSMEs through Training on Preparing a Business Model Canvas and Simple Financial Reports.” Participants were limited to 20 pre-selected MSMEs from Sleman, allowing for a more intensive training. Session 1 began at 1:00 PM and continued until 3:00 PM, with the opening session featuring an interactive explanation of the nine key aspects of the Business Model Canvas (BMC)—from understanding customer segments and value propositions to distribution strategies—explained by Maulana Ghani Yusuf, S.Si., M.E.
Participants’ Enthusiasm
Following this, the second day of the activity continued with training on preparing simple financial reports, which can be directly applied by micro and small businesses. This material was delivered by Tangguh Pratysto, SE., M.SE., who provided practical insights so that MSMEs could record, prepare, and read basic financial reports. During the session, participants were given the opportunity to ask questions, participate in case studies, and participate in live business simulations, so they not only learned theory but also tried to apply it to their own businesses.
The participants demonstrated high enthusiasm, evident in the numerous questions and discussions that arose. They acknowledged that the material presented was highly relevant to daily business needs. It is hoped that this activity will not simply be a training session but will also become the seed of real change for MSMEs in Sleman. Through the synergy between universities and grassroots communities like Literasi Desa Tumbuh, it is hoped that more resilient, creative, and competitive local entrepreneurs will emerge.
