Semarang, August 7, 2025 – The Faculty of Economics and Business, Diponegoro University (FEB UNDIP), initiated by Dr. Jaka Aminata, SE., MA., conducted an Evaluation of the Fisheries Sector’s Performance Against GDP/GRDP in the First Semester of 2025 in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The event took place at the Santika Premiere Hotel, Jl. Pandanaran No. 116–120, Semarang, and was attended by various stakeholders from the fisheries sector, academics, local governments, and business actors. The fisheries sector is a significant contributor to economic growth in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). However, production dynamics, commodity prices, climate change, and logistical challenges significantly impact the sector’s performance.This evaluation aimed to :
1. Analyze the fisheries sector’s contribution to Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in both regions.
2. Identify factors inhibiting and supporting the performance of the fisheries sector.
3, Develop data-based policy recommendations to strengthen the sector’s competitiveness and sustainability.
4. Event Series and Panel Discussion
The event opened with remarks from local government representatives, followed by a keynote presentation by Dr. Jaka Aminata, who presented data on the growth and contribution of the fisheries sector for the first half of 2025. Several key points discussed in the panel discussion included:
Production and Value-Added Trends – Performance of the capture fisheries and aquaculture subsectors, and the role of downstream processing in increasing product added value.
Climate and Infrastructure Influences – The impact of extreme weather on production volume and cold chain infrastructure challenges.
Market Access and Prices – Fluctuations in fish prices at the fisherman and consumer levels, as well as access to export markets.
Strategies for Increasing Competitiveness – Innovation in aquaculture technology, digital marketing, and integration of fisheries data across regions.
The panel discussion was attended by various representatives, including the Central Java Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Agency, the Yogyakarta Special Region Fisheries Agency, academics from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Diponegoro University (UNDIP), and fisheries sector business players. The speakers agreed that cross-sector collaboration is key to driving optimal and sustainable fisheries sector performance.
The forum concluded several strategic recommendations:
Improving cold chain infrastructure to maintain the quality of fish products all the way to the end consumer.
Strengthening fisherman and fish farmer institutions through cooperatives or joint venture groups.
Optimizing fisheries statistics data for more precise policy planning.
Product and market diversification to mitigate the risk of price and demand fluctuations.
This event served not only as a performance evaluation event but also as a platform for stakeholders to formulate concrete steps to strengthen the fisheries sector’s contribution to the GRDP of Central Java and Yogyakarta Special Region in the second half of 2025.
